I'm all girly and domestic this week it seems

I'm all girly, house wifey, and domestic this week it seems. Don't believe me? Let me tell you all about it. (Like you really want to know). But hey I might make some girl a good wife someday. (grin)

1) I cleaned and rearranged after I got two new coffee tables and a cool mirror from my friend Nic who is moving to Kenya. (see picture) Aren't they the coolest swirl coffee tables. You can't see the one in the corner by the silver chair very well but it even has a swirl base on it.

2) I wore a skirt to work. What? That's girly.

3) I went to a cooking meals event called dream dinners with t. We made three servings of one meal for free to get the hang of it. It's a place where they provide everything for you so you can put together all your meals for a month in about an hour and a half. I think it's pretty cool, but just in case t and I signed up together to share August meals so if we don't like it in the end we shared it.

What I like most about this idea is that when I am crazy busy in September I will have food ready to go, and I will eat healthy because these meals are all homemade and good for me. Now if I just was doing this with Lo it would be perfect!

At the same time as I'm signing up for this, I wish I was like apron strings. She could cook all her meals for the month ahead of time without this assistance. But, then I tell myself even though I like cooking all right, the time it takes for meal planning, shopping, and having all the right spices for an entire month overwhelms me.

Starbucks is such a sweetheart

I have a Starbucks cred. card because I knew I would be much more likely to earn a cup of coffee than a airline mile. I recently went to check my balance on how much coffee I've earned. It didn't work, but I figured I'd just check again later. It wasn't a big deal. But then, I got a present from Starbucks in the mail. In it was the coffee in the picture and an apology. It's funny that this makes me think a company is thoughtful.

#1: The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest
spaghetti harvest In 1957 the respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in. Many called the BBC wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti tree. To this the BBC diplomatically replied that they should "place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best."

Productive Day

I have been asking people lately what they are proud of themselves for. Like if they were their parent, what would they be proud of themselves for. I've gotten some interesting responses from the two people I asked.

Today, I am proud of the fact that I worked out first thing in the morning, did my taxes (finally!), took the rest of my year's recycling into the recycling center (which now completes all my new years resolutions), did some cleaning, got some (but not all) of my homework done. And to add to this goodness of taking in my recycling I'm participating in earth hour tonight at 8:00 p.m. where everyone is supposed to turn out their lights.

But first, I'm going to go to a pampered chef party. I know, don't you want to revoke my lesbian card? It's the second one I've been to in a month. I'm trying to help out a friends sister (sister in law?) by going. Still, don't knock it, because wouldn't you want a girlfriend (or any friend for that matter) who wanted to cook for you?

And speaking of cooking. Lo is coming in two weeks. We shall have to cook up some kindof something. Um. What? I'm talking about food people!

The first recipe I've ever posted - Turkey Chilli

Last night I cooked, cleaned, did laundry, and all other things domestic. I read cooking blogs like this one (you need go to the bottom and click older posts to start seeing cooking stuff...) but never thought of posting a recipe here. Although I do like to cook, especially when I get to cook for someone, I am an average cook. And if you have read this blog well, it isn't a cooking blog! (chuckle) Still this one is worth posting because it was really good. I got the recipe from a friend of mine who is a cooking professor (and a lesbian), a wonderful combination don't you think. So if you cook, here you go.

You can make this on the stove or in a Crockpot. I actually just threw all this in the crockpot. O, and it has a bit of a kick.

Turkey Chili

1 bag frozen corn
1 bunch chopped cilantro
1 lb ground turkey (brown first)
1 bay leaf
2 cans kidney beans
2 jalapeƱos chopped
2 red onions, chopped
1/2 can of tomato paste
2 cans chopped tomatoes
2 cans of beer (goes in last - use any kind)
1/4 cup chili powder
salt and pepper to taste

1) cook onion, garlic, with 2 tbs oil
2) brown turkey
3) Put it all together and cook.
4) Top with cilantro and sour cream.

* I have a smaller Crockpot so this is how I changed the recipe. I browned the turkey and then put all of this in a crockpot. I just did 1 can of kidney beans, a bit less onion and corn and only one can of beer. But it still was just as good I think.

New years resolution #1 accomplished: Bloody Mary

So I think I had a post a while back about how this year my new years resolutions were going to be easy little things. 1) Drink a bloody Mary for the first time. 2) Take in my recycling. And I accomplished the first one this morning at a breakfast place my friend Lynnae and I dig called LuLu's. We were served by a funky pink haired waitress.

Sometimes I wonder what someone, in this case the pink haired waitress, would do, if I said: "Will you marry me?" in the way people say that when they really need something like coffee and someone gives it to them unexpectedly. Just imagining saying that to a stranger who is serving me, makes me grin. Yeah, I'm a dork.

O, so I was talking about bloody Mary drinks. This one had Wasabi in it. It did not have meat with it like the above one though but this is the drink that looked the most like what I had. It was pretty strong. And I didn't like it. But this does not make my accomplishment of this resolution any less accomplished. I may give it another chance someday when there isn't Wasabi in it. But right now I'm done. :)

O and then I went to church. My old church. And saw some of you all who I dig. Hi jess! And it was actually pretty good. Perhaps better than good because I had a bloody mary right before hand. Although for the record I only was able to finish about 1/4 of the thing...
