On Ray Boltz

So when I was growing up we listened to Ray Boltz a ton. He's a christian singer and did a lot of dramatic story like songs. Do any of you remember him?

Anyway he just came out of the closet. Read about it here.
It got to the point by the early-to-mid ’00s that keeping his homosexuality hidden had become an increasingly wearying notion.

“You get to be 50-some years old and you go, ‘This isn’t changing.’ I still feel the same way. I am the same way. I just can’t do it anymore.’”

I've been reading a lot of blogs talking about him and his coming out. So sad how many people not only can't understand, but don't want to, don't want to try to see that there might be another way of thinking that's different from theirs. They alone understand God's will and way for us ALL!

What courage it took for him, and for us all, who have to suffer the slings and arrows of our "brothers and sisters" when we live our own truth.

BTW, yes, I remember him vividly, especially his song "Thank You." He was very popular when I was very into CCM with the likes of John Michael Talbot, Michael Card, 2nd Chapter of Acts, etc. (Back in the "Golden Days" of CCM :)

i went to one of his concerts when i was younger!!! i love "thank you."
i really love that he feels the same way i do: “This is what it really comes down to,” he says. “If this is the way God made me, then this is the way I’m going to live. It’s not like God made me this way and he’ll send me to hell if I am who he created me to be … I really feel closer to God because I no longer hate myself.”
i wish more people understood that

Yeah there's a lot of talk. I soooo remember growing up with his music. Amazing the age range of christians that know him.

I never really knew of him, I always saw him as more southern gospel than 'mainstream' christian that are talked about and I kept up with at the time.

But reading that article was good for the soul, my prayers are with him and his family as they brave the backlash of his interview.

I do have to say that it is nice to see another christian come out and speak truthfully. I'm sure there are more of them in the christian music industry, but too afraid to lose their money-maker.
