Who uses the word sexy?

I recently chatted with someone who used the word sexy and it threw me. What really is sexy? It's so relative. It's different for a perfume ad, or a 80 year old woman, or a guy talking about a car. I don't think I'm not sexy, but I've also never thought of myself as sexy either. When I asked this person to define why they used it they said it meant confident. Interesting. I just think that word is weird and I keep thinking, Am I sexy? And every time I do I feel like I might burst into laughter. And then I start hearing that song "I'm too sexy for this shirt" in my head. You know that one?

Hey, in other news, zuzu had her baby. Zuzu being my cousin who usually comments on this site when she is not with child or just having birthed one. Is birthing a child sexy? Alright off to work. I'm now doing all my blogging at home since I have wifi.

So have a good day all you sexy people. :)

You are funny! I agree, sexy is a weird word that makes me want to laugh too. It's just sort of creepy for some reason!

Think it depends who says it, when and how they say it!
And congratulations to Zuzu!

Too true. Context is everything. Anyway... I posted the "I'm too sexy song" just now to add to the fun. :)

lol! that song - it creeps up on me a lot too, maybe more in a context of when I listen to someone taking the piss out someone else who thinks they're "sexy" but really are pathetic or just plain slutty. there's a fine line there I think. And I think looking at art in the last hmmm... 600 years for instance, trying to define sexy has eluded us so far, the greatest painetrs, writers and philosophers had a go at it somewhere along the way, and we're still nowhere near. So is it that "sexy" being one of those human-only things in the same way intellect or cruelty is, might turn out to be just pheromones and instinct to keep the species going?
on the other hand - the confidence argument has a lot of weight - you see the most gorgeous people sometimes who are the most insecure about their bodies. but that's a whole different subject....

I think it would be a bit weird if people thought that they themselves were sexy. Isn't that something that someone else should be thinking about you and you about them?

I think maybe it's just a bit egotistical to think it about yourself. I would say that finding someone sexy is about finding them sexually attractive which seems a bit weird to say about yourself. Although you might accept that others find you sexy.

Actually isn't there a scene in the film Notting Hill where Spike (?) is standing there in his grey underpants and looks at himself in the mirror and describes himself as sexy.

So maybe people only say it about themselves if they have a big ego or in comedy moments in films...

Note: when I say "you" I don't mean "you", I mean it in the general sense. I'm not casting doubt on your potential sexiness. This is such a minefield...

Indeed, context and perspective is everything for such a subjective word.

Of course, I would say that sexy means to the person who is uttering it, that whatever trait or quality that pulls them in a sexually attractive way to another person is sexy to them.

For example, I love when sporty women with longer hair pull it back into a ponytail and and pull it through the back of a baseball cap. That's a physical sexy for me.

Also, I am very attracted to intelligent, confident women, so when they exhbit that trait, it has the potential to be sexy to me... a non-physical sexiness.

But Billy Bob might find mini-skirts and blue eyeshadow sexy to him. Who am I to say he's wrong? :)

Too funny. You all are totally fantastic and this was a fun thing to get comments on.

slashdotmad you are right sexy in art keeps changing too! Way to see the long view.

And random reflections, I agree sexy does seem like a word that should be used by someone else about you than you about yourself. I dig that Notting Hill movie. Hmmm.

Cheryl for me it's women who bandana's. But then sexy equals just plain hot. I will never get how a head bandana can do that to me. Weird.

With the first woman I dated, her glasses made her sexy. It was weird...sometimes I'd see her without her glasses (or with an older, less groovy pair) and not be as attracted to her as before. That scared me because I felt like I was being totally superficial!

humm... sexy! I think theres a lot of different things that can make a person sexy. me and my girlfriend chat about this often, what makes me or her sexy. anything from a look, or an outfit can make her sexy to me. I personally think my girlfriend is sexy when shes getting ready for a Basketball game, in her uniform and warm-up... soo sexy. or when shes laying on my shoulder at night. and i can rub her back. shes sexy. I think the definition of sexy is in the eyes of the beholder!!
